Who we are

My name is Ryan Goodman. I live in Utah, and I make knives, cutting boards, and knife blocks by hand. I started this company because I enjoy cooking, and I have always loved knives. My goal is to create an affordable entry point into custom work, offering high-carbon and high-performing stainless steel knives that can serve anyone well in the kitchen.

Every knife I make starts at the forge. I shape the blade, grind the bevels, and clean up the profile to bring it into its final form. The blades are heat-treated, ground, and finished by me, and each handle is individually fit and shaped. I also make cutting boards and knife blocks that complete the set for the kitchen.

Right now, the focus is on the Apprentice line. These knives demonstrate my current level of expertise and the progress I am making as I develop my skills and consistency. The Journeyman, Master, and Custom lines will come later as I continue through the American Bladesmith Society path. The idea is simple: customers can start with apprentice work and progress to more advanced blades as I develop my skills as a maker.

I plan to keep the entry-level knives while also producing Damascus runs for those who want something more advanced. I want someone to be able to start with an affordable knife and, over time, transition into higher-level work without leaving the brand.

My goal is to make knives that anyone can use, from home cooks to professionals to collectors. I also plan to keep customers connected through a warranty program that makes replacements and upgrades accessible. The aim is to build lasting relationships, not just single sales.

At the core, this company is about steady progress and making tools that improve with every project. Who we are is simple: a maker learning his craft, a company growing with its customers, and a commitment to knives and boards that are built to last.

The Essentials

    • 52100 High Carbon Steel
52100 is a classic high carbon steel known for excellent edge retention and toughness. It can take a very fine edge and holds up well under daily use. Like all carbon steels, it will develop a patina over time and needs to be kept dry and oiled to prevent rust.

    • AEB-L Stainless Steel
AEB-L is a fine-grained stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance and edge stability. It was originally designed for razor blades and is known for taking a very sharp edge while being easy to maintain. It is a great choice for a kitchen knife that performs well and requires less care than high carbon steel.

  • I use hardwoods such as walnut, maple, and oak for handles, boards, and blocks. These woods are chosen for their durability, stability, and natural beauty in the kitchen. I stabilize the handle materials myself to make them tougher and more resistant to moisture, but I can also support a natural finish if preferred. Each handle is shaped and fit by hand, then finished to highlight the wood grain and provide lasting performance. Cutting boards and blocks receive a food-safe oil and wax finish to protect them and keep them ready for daily use.

  • The knives I make are designed for kitchen use. They are built to handle slicing, chopping, and preparing food with a sharp and reliable edge. They are not meant for prying, batoning, or heavy outdoor use. Cutting boards and blocks are built to provide a stable surface for food preparation and to protect the edge of your knives. Each piece is made to be a tool you can reach for every day in the kitchen.

  • Because each knife, board, and block is made to order, I cannot accept standard returns or exchanges. The custom nature of this work means every piece is unique and built specifically for the customer who ordered it.

That said, I want every customer to feel supported. If there is a problem related to craftsmanship, materials, or if the item arrives damaged during shipping, please reach out right away. In those cases I will work with you through the warranty process to repair or replace the piece.

This policy allows me to stand behind the work while respecting the time and effort that goes into each handmade item.

  • Knives and cutting boards are consumable tools, and with regular use they will wear over time. Because of the nature of natural materials, I cannot guarantee that they will last forever or replace them at no cost. What I can promise is a fair path to keep you supported as a customer for life.

If a knife or board is damaged through personal use, send me a photo and I will offer a replacement at a reduced price. You can choose to keep the old knife, or we can work out a way to return it and reforge or regrind it into another knife for a fair cost. That way the original piece still has value and your investment continues forward.

For professional chefs and others who put heavy daily mileage on their knives, I offer an end-of-life program. When your blade has been sharpened and used down to its limit, you can send me proof and receive a significant discount toward a new one. This ensures you always have a working tool in hand while keeping the relationship ongoing.

Please be honest when reaching out about warranty claims. These tools are meant to be used and enjoyed, and I will always do my best to support you fairly.

This warranty is designed to make sure you always have a path to repair, replacement, or upgrade without paying full price again. My goal is to build long-term relationships with customers and stand behind the tools I make while recognizing they are built to be used.
